DECIBEL3 SoundSeal Structure | |

||||||||||
| The structure is based on the principle of a great mass resting on a
"spring" which is represented by the DECIBEL3 mat. The mass
is added by applying trowelling on the acoustic mat. The finished solution
lead to the feet that the energy from the floating floor, that is created
when people walk on it or from an external source of a sound, is insulated
by the DECIBEL3 mat and the sound energy that is transmitted to the subfloor
is reduced considerably. To avoid that this floating flooring should be in contact with the walls the mat is turned up against the wall. The joints of the mat are forced together and then taped with our dB tape. The DECIBEL3 mat has a unique upper side that will impermeable to the process water in the trowelling during the drying time . However, it is not vapourtight and therefore it will breath. If one wishes to protect the structure against submoisture we recommend that plastic film fabric that is resistant to ageing is installed with lap joints on the concrete. Primarily, the plastic film fabric is recommended when building a new house or where possible moisture may be present. The trowelling may be cement based or gypsum, but it is also possible to apply concrete, bedding mortar and lightweight concrete type EPS. Normally, 30 mm's of reinforced trowelling on DECIBEL3 is enough for full strenght ( based on standard qualities). If trowelling with greater elasticity is used a certain smaller adjustment of the thickness may be acceptable. If you are uncertain, please consult us or the current supplier of the material. Normally, high density products are not used thicker than 50 mm's because of the cost. If thicker concrete is required, parts of the thickness is made up of lightweight concrete which is a cheaper solution. The market offers a number of different products and types of float filler, and we recommend that you contact us for further information concerning our partners. |

| Explanatory Sketch of the SoundSeal Structure | ||||||||||
|
|
||||||||||
| The SoundSeal structure with DECIBEL3 is very effective concerning
the level of the impact sound muffling. As mentioned earlier the principle is based on a 30 mm's trowelling on DECIBEL3. If the thickness of the trowelling is increased there will be additional
improvement. Two examples follow with DECIBEL3 + 30 mm's trowelling. The first one on a HD/F120/20 without extra topping and also a 220 mm's solid beam and slab floor. The black graph indicate each structure respectively without measures taken. |

| Through tests based on previous experience we can
indicate how the level of impact sound will be improved when more density is applied on the DECIBEL3 mat. As a rule of thumb one may expect approx. 1 dB improvement of the level of impact sound (L'n,w) for each 5-10 mm's of trowelling applied in addition to the standard solution with 30 mm's. The calculation is performed with regard to a density of approx. 1.7 kg/mē. The line of argument is only valid up to a given point where the effect level away, but this point is at a thickness where the financial effects already have rendered the structure ineffective. |

| Gypsum Screeding | ||||||||||
| We have also measured on gypsum screeding in the
SoundSeal structure. The structure in this case was beam and slab floor. Note
that the index of improvement of the impact sound ΔL'n,w may reach
different readings depending on what foundation work the structure has.
However, the following information gives a good indication. |

| The SoundSeal Structure with Double Layers of Decibel3 | ||||||||||
| For the cases where the structure requires additional improvement it may be made more effective by increasing the thickness of the filler as described earlier. It is also possible to install double layers of the DECIBEL3 mat before the topping is added. | ||||||||||
|
||||||||||
| In these cases there is a very effective possibility through the use of double layers of the DECIBEL3 mat. The installation is carried out similar to the standard application, but with the slight extra work of laying en extra layer subtended at an angle of 90 degrees with the other layer. The structure can be paved with ≥ 30 mm's reinforced reshaping filler. | ||||||||||
| Exemples of Concrete Structures | ||||||||||
| Below is an example showing a comparison between one and two layers of DECIBEL3 in the SoundSeal structure installed with a 30 mm's trowelling on a HD/F120/20 without topping and also a 220 mm's solid beam and slab floor. The black graph indicates the respective structures without any measures taken. The test refers to the reduction of the impact sound vertically. | ||||||||||
